The mission of the Givati Unit "Orev" (Givati Reconnaissance and Target Destruction Company) is the detection and destruction of high-value targets at long ranges, such as tanks, armored personnel carriers, and enemy infantry units. They also specialize in reconnaissance, providing high-quality intelligence on enemy forces and their locations, directing artillery fire, helicopters, and marking targets for the air force. The unit also includes a special team of snipers who undergo specialized training for this purpose.

Since its establishment, the unit has participated in numerous ambushes and special operations as part of its activity in Judea and Samaria, the Gaza Strip, and the security zone in Southern Lebanon, and it has often been recognized as an outstanding unit within the brigade. Orev soldiers are known for their ability to carry heavy loads over long distances and in challenging terrain.
